Makenzy Beard debut's with a sellout solo exhibition at Blackwater
Young artist Makenzy Beard was welcomed with a sellout debut solo exhibition at Blackwater Gallery this month.
The teenager opened to a sellout exhibition premiere, with viewers and collectors travelling from all over the country to be the first to see Beard's new collection of portraiture.
With the portraits only revealed to the public on the opening night, the gallery was full of buzz and excitement as a stunning series of new work was revealed. The exhibition - 'Makenzy Beard - The Painter Girl' gave viewers an opportunity to explore a collection of large and small scale portraiture of people and instances that have made an impact on the young artist in recent months.
Makenzy's subjects are often people she meets on her travels across the globe, her portraits developing through applying multiple layers of brilliant colour, giving complexity to the hues of her and tones of her subjects. Her detailed observations and considered composition combine to create stunning representations of the human face. Each piece exploring the nature of the individual, offering a glimpse into their life and history.
Talking about her work, Makenzy describes what makes for a great portrait -
"From a technical point of view there has to be a good light source and quite a lot of emotion in the face so there's something to capture when I paint it.
"It just has to be an interesting person, that's why I stick to portraits, it makes it so much easier for me to paint when I am thinking about the person themselves, who they are and what they're up to and capture a brief moment in time on a canvas."
Although all original canvases are now sold, an exclusive boutique collection of curated prints are available from the collection. Each giclee canvas print is produced in a limited edition of 10 worldwide.
