Featured Artist: Jon Wall

A backstory of how one artist’s ambition became a reality:

At Blackwater Gallery, we’re passionate about supporting new and emerging artists that we truly believe have the talent to become great contemporary visionaries. This passion leads us to Art Fairs, Exhibitions and more importantly, University Degree shows such as the Cardiff Metropolitan Degree Show we attended in 2018.

It was at this show that Blackwater Gallery founder, Jamie Aherne was captured by graduate Jon Wall’s abstract paintings. In particular, it was the way in which Wall treats the canvas as a sketchbook that really caught his attention, the artists describes this as “making visible my experiments, errors and triumphs”. It is this innocent nature that makes his work so strong and thought provoking.

Since that crucial meeting, Jon Wall’s relationship with Blackwater Gallery has grown stronger and stronger, witnessing his progression as an artist through frequent visits to his studio. Fast-forward a year and Jon Wall’s work is now hanging on the walls of Cardiff’s brand new, contemporary art gallery. He is also the feature of our local artist exhibition, “Stronger Together” which will be showing at Blackwater Gallery from the 24th of May through to the 1st of June.

Breaking into the art world can be difficult, that’s why Blackwater Gallery will be continuing to search and discover the next big talents with the intention of looking to extend an artist’s career with an opportunity to be represented by us.
