Destruction of Mural by World Famous Graffiti Artist at Blackwater

A large scale original mural by world famous graffiti artist the Rebel Bear was destroyed by the subject of the mural, local wheelchair user Cerys Gemma. The Rebel Bear, a world famous graffiti artist is known for their controversial and often political murals.

The mural, found in Cardiff created by the mysterious Glaswegian Street artist, The Rebel Bear, was exhibited at Blackwater Gallery on the site of the parking dispute which inspired the piece.

The artwork, which appeared on hoardings on Ferry Road in July 2022, was painted by the 'Scottish Banksy' in support of Cerys Gemma, a disabled woman who lives in the city. Cerys, a Prospect Place resident, is trying to overturn parking charges for using disabled spaces outside her flat.

In 2022 Blackwater released a series of limited edition. prints of the mural, with all proceeds donated to help fund Cerys' legal case which centres around the parking dispute.

At the end of the exhibition, the mural was destroyed at the request of the Rebel Bear, with Cerys Gemma visiting Blackwater to spray paint over the original artwork with 'CLAMPED'
