A life-long city dweller, with a background in dance and performance, Gail’s current work is concerned with architecture and space, and with the rhythms, contrasts and tensions of the urban landscape at large.

Recent projects and group exhibitions include Components at the Old Biscuit Factory Bermondsey (2018), Saatchi Screen (2018), the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize (2017), and the Evening Standard Contemporary Art Prize (2017) for which she was shortlisted.  Her work has featured in the RA Magazine and is held in private collections internationally.  Gail graduated in 2017 with a first class diploma in Fine Art from the Art Academy London and subsequently featured in FBA Futures, an exhibition showcasing outstanding graduates selected from across the country by members of the Federation of British Artists.

“Fluorescent debris against urban grey, dancing smog engulfing geometric construction, chimneys, railings, and street lights within a complex landscape of abstracted shapes and colliding planes.

My paintings grow from the interplay of the concrete and permanent with the transient and fluid, and echo the ever-evolving metropolis through an open-ended process of layering, observation and reimagining.

Using paint, pastel and collaged photography and ephemera I recall the textures of the city, and notions of time pervade the enquiry with references to Classical and Victorian architecture, Modernist aesthetics, contemporary street furniture, and the inked and erased architectural plans which will shape the future of our surroundings.”
